Why facebook should be purchased ASAP:
Within just a few years Facebook has become on the most popular social networking sites and with the highest retention rate. The site has made many improvements since its initial inception and launch.
It is now much more than a site and is a platform on which prosumers/developers/users can build on by creating applications that generate value, hereby creating a Facebook ecosystem.
I guess you could say that facebookâs goal is to retain users on the website as long as possible and coming back more often. Well it seems logical for one of the next steps would be the integration of P2P applications such as instant messaging, video conferencing, VoIP, file sharing and so on. For this reason a company like AOL, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft should all be all over Facebook begging to buy the company or creating applications for the site.
If they do not take advantage of the opportunity Facebook presents, than Facebook and other developers will. Facebook is going to pose a huge threat to Craigslist and eBay because it has started to provide its own internet marketplace. AOL did understand the importance of creating a social network and made valiant attempts with the newer version of Aim, but the truth is people, especially those 18-25 having been in the school system Facebook was able to reach them in a value generating way– allowing them to be connected to specific networks such as those created by the school system.
There are many contenders for Facebook, but I think if a struggling tech giant like Yahoo could pick up facebook.com then maybe Yahoo could gain a competitive edge. AOL could also benefit greatly from the purchase.
